About Dr. Minas

Tom Minas, MD, MS, FACS, FRCS(C), joined the Paley Orthopedic & Spine Institute at St. Mary’s Medical Center in West Palm Beach, Florida, as the Director of the Cartilage Repair Center in 2018. Before becoming the director, he spent 30 years at Harvard Medical School as a professor of orthopedic surgery. He has completed more cartilage transplants than any other surgeon in the world. 

Dr. Minas specializes in autologous chondrocyte implantation (ACI), a state-of-the-art biomedical treatment for osteoarthritis in the knee, and he has developed and patented customized individually made knee replacements. 

Dr. Minas earned his master’s degree from Harvard School of Public Health in Boston. He then earned his medical degree and completed his residency at the University of Toronto Faculty of Medicine in Toronto. His extensive education also includes clinical fellowships at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston and at Sunnybrook Medical Centre in Toronto.

In addition to teaching on the faculty at Harvard Medical School, Dr. Minas has shared his knowledge through publishing and lecturing extensively on cartilage repair and joint preservation of the knee. Dr. Minas has authored a textbook, a dozen book chapters, and more than 100 peer-reviewed articles in international journals. 

He is a member of several professional organizations, including The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Toronto, Canada, the New England Orthopedic Society, the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery, and the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons.
