Known for his natural ability to connect with patients and caregivers, Jahangir “John” Asghar, MD, is a board-eligible, highly experienced spine surgeon specializing in the treatment of pediatric, adolescent, and adult scoliosis at the Paley Orthopedic & Spine Institute at St. Mary’s Medical Center in West Palm Beach, Florida.
Dr. Asghar received his medical degree from St. George’s University School of Medicine in Grenada, West Indies, followed by a residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in Newark. He went on to complete a fellowship at the Shriners Hospital for Children-Philadelphia, in Pennsylvania, in complex spine and spine deformity surgery.
Because of his forward-thinking approach, Dr. Asghar is responsible for developing groundbreaking minimally invasive ultrasonic techniques to surgically treat problematic conditions associated with previously-treated scoliosis (revisions) and spinal deformity.
Dr. Asghar publishes extensively and presents around the world on the subject of scoliosis and treatment of complex pediatric spinal deformities, with over 40 peer-reviewed articles in circulation to date. He’s a member of numerous organizations, including the Scoliosis Research Society, the North American Spine Society, and the International Society for the Advancement of Spine Surgery. He’s also a designated founding member of the Society for Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery.
He brings his passion for positive change to the field by giving back at home and abroad, as well. His charitable work in spinal deformity includes service-based trips to Asia, South America, and the Middle East.
