Patient Cases

Case 42: Fibular Hemimelia

Young girl with fibular hemimelia on the right side. We treated her with the SUPERankle procedures to address the foot deformity and multiple lengthenings of the right tibia to correct her limb length discrepancy. To correct her knee valgus, we performed an epiphysiodesis procedure prior to skeletal maturity. Patient is now a teenager with equalized limb lengths and no residual deformities.

Case 43: Fibular Hemimelia

Young boy with fibular hemimelia on the right side. We treated him with the SUPERankle procedure, including resection of the fibular anlage and a supramalleolar osteotomy. We performed multiple lengthenings of the tibia to correct his limb length discrepancy. Patient now has equal limb lengths and no residual deformity.

Case 44: Fibular Hemimelia Type 3A

Young girl with Type 3A fibular hemimelia. We performed a SUPERankle procedure with supramalleolar osteotomy and simultaneous lengthening of the tibia. We performed multiple tibial lengthenings as well as an epiphysiodesis to correct knee valgus. We performed a fusion of the hindfoot to correct residual ankle deformity. Final lengthening of the femur performed at adolescence to eliminate limb length discrepancy.

Case 45: Fibular Hemimelia Type 3C

Young boy with Type 3C fibular hemimelia of the left leg. We performed a SUPERankle procedure and lengthening of the left tibia along with gradual deformity correction of the left foot. Patient underwent multiple lengthenings of the tibia to eliminate limb length discrepancy. He now has equal limb length and a functional foot.

Case 63: Fibular Hemimelia Type 3A

Young girl from Australia with Type 3A fibular hemimelia of the right leg. We performed a SUPERankle procedure along with lengthening and deformity correction of the right foot. Patient has equal limb length and a functional leg. She is enjoying all the normal acitivites of childhood on her own two legs!
