Case 35: Chondroectodermal Dysplasia

Patient is a seven year-old girl with chondroectodermal dysplasia with severe genu valgum of the knees.

Patient initially underwent gradual correction with application of external fixator (Ilizarov frame) at the age of 9.

Unfortunately, patient suffered recurrence of deformity. X-rays and pictures at age 11.

Dr. Paley then performed an intra-articular osteotomy and elevation of the lateral tibial plateau of the right leg with internal fixation and muscle releases.

This resulted in correction of the genu valgum. Three month post-op:

Comparison of the right leg, which has been corrected, and the leg left, which has not been corrected.

Patient then underwent correction on the right leg.

Follow up shows complete correction of the bilateral genu valgum with no recurrence.
